A century-old miller that's still cutting edge: the rollout of electric trucks for flour delivery continues in Bordeaux

On Friday, December 5, representatives from Grands Moulins de Paris, Mauffrey, and Veynat officially marked the launch last January of two electric trucks for flour delivery routes to local bakeries and an electric tanker truck for bulk deliveries to one of our biscuit-making clients during an inauguration ceremony at the Bordeaux mill.

Reduce our CO2 emissions

As part of our Link by GMP sustainability initiative, our goal is to reduce our emissions by 2030 and contribute to carbon neutrality by 2050. We have been working closely with our transportation partners to gradually replace our fleet of trucks used to deliver flour and milled mixes to our customers.

“We were pioneers in introducing the first electric delivery trucks in France for distributing flour to bakers. Following our mill in Paris-Gennevilliers in 2023, it is now our mill in Bordeaux’s turn to be equipped, much to the delight of everyone—customers and local residents alike.”

In May 2023, two electric trucks were deployed for flour delivery routes to our artisan bakers in the Île-de-France region and within Paris. In January 2025, two new electric trucks joined the fleet to serve Bordeaux and its surrounding areas. Both sites are now equipped with charging stations for these vehicles. In total, 107 tons of CO2 will be saved each year— the equivalent of 60 round-trip flights between Paris and New York (based on 127,000 km per year for the four electric trucks).

At the same time, we now deliver bulk flour by electric tanker truck from our mill in Bordeaux to Mondelez’s “LU” factory in Cestas.

Mauffrey and Veynat: Indispensable Partners

The Mauffrey Group is a pioneer in the use of alternative energy sources in France: it put the first gas-powered tractor on the road in 2012, the first electric delivery truck in 2021, and the first 44-ton electric tractor in 2022. It was with them that we deployed the first trucks in 2023 to distribute flour to artisan bakers in central Paris; the collaboration therefore naturally continued for the rollout of this solution to artisan bakers in the Bordeaux metropolitan area.

"For over 10 years, we have been working alongside our long-standing partner, Grands Moulins de Paris, to move toward more sustainable and responsible logistics. We are pleased to bring this vision to life with a fleet that runs entirely on alternative energy sources for flour distribution, demonstrating that the energy transition is already a reality."

At the same time, we have been working with the Veynat Group, which specializes in transporting bulk goods by tanker, to deploy an electric tanker truck dedicated to supplying our biscuit manufacturer client, Mondelez, at its “Lu” factory in Cestas. Committed to the ecological transition for several years, Transports Veynat is investing heavily in the development of electric fleets and clean mobility solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations. By integrating zero-emission vehicles and optimizing their routes to minimize empty runs, they are helping to reduce pollutant emissions and improve air quality.

“Seeing this electric tractor hit the road for Les Grands Moulins de Paris fills us with pride. It’s a symbol of a transportation industry that’s moving forward and evolving. At Veynat, a family-owned business committed to a job well done, we view this transition as both a responsibility and a promise to future generations: to continue efficiently transporting our clients’ exceptional products while reducing our impact on the world.”

GMP, Bordeaux’s long-standing miller and a constant innovator

Construction of the Grands Moulins de Bordeaux on the banks of the Garonne began in 1920, allowing the company to take advantage of the river and rail networks. In 1924, the mill merged with its Paris counterpart, thereby combining expertise and reputation.

Located in the heart of the city, the Bordeaux Mill supplies bakers in Bordeaux and throughout the Southwest.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, our mill in Bordeaux sources 100% French bread wheat grown in the immediate vicinity. The wheat is transported by truck or train from Charente (16), Charente-Maritime (17), Vienne (86), Gers (32), and Lot-et-Garonne (47), as well as exclusively by train from Deux-Sèvres (79), Indre (36), and even Maine-et-Loire (49).

And now, part of its flour delivery fleet is electric.

As a long-standing miller in Bordeaux, we are proud to use eco-friendly transportation not only for sourcing our wheat but also for delivering flour.

“Our mill, the only one in Bordeaux, is a major player in the local economy. With our electric trucks, in partnership with our local transport providers Veynat and Mauffrey, we’re reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality for everyone. As a historic, century-old company deeply rooted in our community, it’s our duty to contribute to the collective effort to reduce our environmental footprint. To take this even further, we are also participating in the Bordeaux Alliance for Solar Energy so that in the future we can produce the energy we consume and thus complete the virtuous cycle of our CSR initiative,” confirms Manuel Deville, Director of the mill.

To raise the profile of Grands Moulins de Paris as a milling partner for bakers, the truck branding was carefully designed. This graphic design helps convey to consumers that the products they use every day are made locally and delivered in an environmentally friendly way.

“Through this initiative, Grands Moulins de Paris is mobilizing the entire industry to contribute to a collective effort.”
