Francine places the highest priority on the quality and safety of its products. We would therefore like to provide you with full transparency regarding the recall of our whole-grain flour following the detection of ergot alkaloid levels exceeding the legally permitted limit.
Ergot alkaloids are substances naturally produced by a fungus (ergot) that can, under certain conditions, grow on grains such as wheat.
Naturally found on certain wild grasses, this fungus can occasionally infect wheat ears.
The shift in agricultural practices toward more environmentally friendly methods—such as promoting biodiversity (the presence of vegetation around crops) or reducing tillage—can help foster its development.
The post-harvest cleaning process removes any ergot that may be present, but traces of alkaloids may remain and end up in the flour.
At our mills, we conduct numerous rigorous quality controls on the wheat and the flour we produce. Tests conducted on a batch of Francine Complète flour revealed ergot alkaloid levels exceeding regulatory thresholds.
In accordance with regulations, we have removed and recalled the affected batches from stores (batches: HG10173694 and HG10173796 with best-before date: 12/20/2026).
👉 It is important to note that only the lots listed above are affected.
We remain fully committed to:
– Strengthen wheat inspections at every stage, in collaboration with our suppliers
– Implement additional testing
If you have an affected product, please do not consume it and return it to the store.
