To mark International Biodiversity Day 2026, Grands Moulins de Paris is reaffirming its commitment by highlighting the concrete actions it has taken throughout the year at its various sites. Guided by our environmental charter and our LINK by GMP initiative, these efforts demonstrate our commitment to taking action right in the heart of the communities, as close as possible to your bakeries.
Because protecting nature is everyone’s responsibility and the future of our industries depends on the richness of our ecosystem, here are the projects that help sustain biodiversity right at our mills and production sites.
100% upcycled insect hotels at the Paris-Gennevilliers mill
This year, the Paris-Gennevilliers site focused on a simple, practical, and circular initiative by designing insect hotels entirely from recycled materials sourced on-site (bamboo, bricks, twigs, straw, etc.)—a biodiversity project that cost nothing.
These sustainable structures provide essential habitats for bees, ladybugs, and butterflies—particularly during the winter— thereby supporting the presence of pollinators that are vital to our crops.
Beehives to support local pollinators at the mills in Reims and Verneuil
Several of our mills have chosen to actively support local biodiversity by installing beehives to protect bee colonies:
- In Reims: beehives have been in place and active since the summer of 2025.
- In Verneuil: a similar project was launched, bringing together local teams and a beekeeper to establish a new hive and ensure its growth.
These projects help directly contribute to the conservation of local wildlife while raising our teams' awareness of environmental issues.
Eco-grazing: a gentle, natural solution at the Briare site and the Brienne mill
Implemented at the Briare production site (since 2023) and at the Brienne mill (since 2024), eco-grazing allows us to maintain our green spaces in a way that is completely environmentally friendly. This approach offers numerous tangible benefits:
- Significant reduction in CO₂ emissions due to the elimination of mechanical mowing.
- No noise pollution for our teams and local residents.
- 100% natural grounds maintenance and reduced maintenance costs.
This eco-friendly initiative is particularly appreciated for its authenticity and blends seamlessly into the landscape of our regions.
Protecting Endangered Species: A Nesting Box for Peregrine Falcons at the Bordeaux Mill
In Bordeaux, the mill is actively involved in the conservation of birdlife. In addition to installing insect hotels and traditional birdhouses, the site has installed a special nesting box for peregrine falcons on the roof of its silos.
Produced in collaboration with observations from the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO), this initiative aims to encourage the settlement and reproduction of this protected species by providing it with a safe habitat.
